Hi Everyone,
This is a save the date notification for the Brecon Beacons Sunday Sportive Ride on 21th August 2022, so that you can keep this date free in your diary.
Having organised the Hay in a Day Sunday Sportive Ride for the last 3 years from Cheltenham to Hay on Wye and back in a day, I am proposing this year to organise a new challenge, the Brecon Beacons Sunday Sportive Ride.
Total ride distance is 130 km (81 miles) with approximately 2200 metres of climbing. It includes 3 major climbs: Blaen-y-glyn (450 m summit), Blaen Onneu (520 m summit) and Gospel Pass (550 m summit). I rode the same route back in 2015 with a group and it took us about 5 hrs total riding time. So, if you intend to ride, please make sure that you are up to riding such a tough ride. You have 4 weeks from now to train yourself for this ride!
Here is the draft ride route:
The ride will include:
Start from Hay on Wye main car park at 09:30. (Riders shall organise their own transport to and from Hay on Wye).
2 cafe stops: at Talybont-on-Usk after 39 km (24 Miles) and Crickhowell after another 39 km (24 Miles)
Finish at Hay on Wye. (Cafes should still be open in the town for us to refuel after the ride).
For such a tough ride we need a dry weather forecast. In the event of a wet forecast for 21st August, I will postpone the ride by one week to 28th August and instead run a normal local Sunday Sportive Ride on 21st August.
Nearer to the date I will circulate another e-mail with final details of the ride route and arrangements. Also, I will request you to notify me (secretary@cheltenhamandcounty.cc) before the ride date if you intend to ride. Before the ride I will organise riders’ groups based on ability, as I currently do for all Sunday Sportive Rides, with fastest group(s) setting off first.
Cheers
Nigel

Hi Bill, Not sure if the email is correct to message to? Think it needs the via bit taking out. I’d like to include myself in attending this ride please also.
