Final piece of Bushcombe related harassment on the socials from me…for 2022 anyway!
A MASSIVE thank you to all the volunteers and club members who made yesterday’s hill climb a success. It was a real spectacle, made even more special with a backdrop of club jerseys!
Like a mini Alpe D’Huez, we also had corners taken over by the local clubs of CK Velo and Woodmancote Wheelers.
A few names need special recognition for their efforts:
Mark Skippy Lugg for making the pain of a road closure a breeze.
Andi Rivers for creating the visuals which bombarded the cycling socials for the past 12 weeks.
Harry Walton for consultancy on how to run a TT.
During the event, Emma Skidmore and I were able to walk the hill and talk to a number of Bushcombe Lane residents who had come out to watch. We were only met with positivity and enthusiasm for the event and the riders taking part (even Lisa Ponting 😝).
On that note, feedback from the competitors has been overwhelmingly positive - notably recognising the club as friendly and supportive, with plenty of recognition being given for the support they received on the hill! One guy even appraised the toilet facilities at HQ as ‘the best in hill climbing’!
Both Andrew Feather and Ed Laverack have outlined their interest in the National Hill Climb championship taking place on Bushcombe in the future - crikey!
Dave Arthur and Ed Laverack will both be uploading videos from the event to their YouTube channels in the coming days, so give them a subscribe and keep your eyes peeled.
And the final piece of an excruciatingly positive post: the cake sale raised £170 for Cyclists Fighting Cancer. That’s 68 slices sold to a bunch of hill climbers - no small feat!
Cheers and thanks for your support!
Congratulations to all involved, is there a link to the results?
Amazing. Organisers and participants should be equally proud!
