Huge thanks to everyone that helped put on yesterday’s race. It was a great day to go sliding around the course. Better legs were in order but sadly not to be found. Special mention to Dave T for going above and beyond as a marshal and taking custody of my glasses mid-race.

Disgraceful. That’s the end of my membership. Interesting to see that the Western CX League has already been discussing the possibility of alternative governance for races in future seasons.

These races are three rounds in already, so I'm a little late in sharing, but the final two rounds are coming up. Details here: https://my.raceresult.com/groups/5114/ It's an excellent race series on the north edge of Swindon that has been running for over ten years. Heartily recommended. After round 5 on 29th, there's a small presentation event in the on-site bar with frites and mayo for all. I've been doing these races for years and am happy to help with any questions, although I unfortunately can't offer a lift. Other than a CX or gravel bike (no MTBs allowed), the only thing you need that is different is a decent front light as not all parts of the course are floodlit.

I recently visited the Race Ware stand at the Cycle Show. As well as a wealth of mounts for pretty much anything you can think of, they also have replacement tabs for GPS computers. They might be just what lets your Garmin, Wahoo, whatever live to fight another day. Worth a look. The newsletter mentions a Bank Holiday CX race on 1st August. I think it’s only a Bank Holiday in Scotland on that date. Just mentioning in case it’s material to the date chosen. I’m looking forward to it either way!

Hi all, Being relatively new to the area, I am hoping to tap into my clubmates' knowledge. I need a domestic conservatory replacing and would be very pleased to hear from anyone in the club that is in the trade, or has a recommendation. Email me at cyclingevent (at) outlook (dot) com if you prefer. Please remove this post if felt to be inappropriate. I won't mind at all and will gladly fall on a moderator's sword. Thanks, Mark

Congratulations to all the CXers on their season. Unfortunately the tables don't name the clubs represented, but I'm sure you all know who you are, even if we don't! https://www.racetecresults.com/StartPage.aspx?CId=16665

Hi everyone, As you may have already seen in today's club newsletter (thanks, Bill), I'm organising a couple of trips and I would like to share a few more details with my C&CCC clubmates. Both trips are ones I’ve organised before and may be familiar, albeit I wasn’t a member of C&CCC when they last happened. Both trips are voluntary endeavours on my part and the prices cover costs. One trip is to ride the Dunwich Dynamo in July 2022. It’s an iconic through-the-night road ride. Read on for details. Partners, friends (even friends in other clubs!) are welcome. If you haven’t heard of it, the Dunwich Dynamo is a special ride that deserves a place amongst your thoughts. It’s 115 miles on roads from Hackney, London to Dunwich on the Suffolk coast. Through the night with a couple of thousand others. There is no recognisable organisation, no entries and it’s free. You just turn up and do the ride, ensuring you are self-sufficient. There are lots of pubs, cafes, village halls and other refreshment stops along the way that open specially for the event, and several businesses in Dunwich open extra early to reward finishers with breakfast. Plenty of websites will tell you more about it. My article: http://www.gloscitycc.co.uk/spokespiece-magazine/#dflip-df_5908/1/ https://www.cyclingweekly.com/news/latest-news/dunwich-dynamo-take-part-339446 Route: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/28157346 The trickiest aspect of taking part involves getting to the start in central London and then getting home from the remote finish on a Sunday morning. Transport options are very limited, so I’ve organised a private coach for us and our bikes. The only cost to take part is to cover the cost of the coach hire. Itinerary / included: • Saturday 16th 2022: coach departs from Swindon around 15.00 (time TBC). Arrives in Hackney around 19.00. There will be a stop in the services reasonably close to London, allowing time for refreshments and an opportunity to change into cycling kit. Bikes get prepared (see below), before we all set off and ride the Dunwich Dynamo. • Sunday 17th July: coach departs from Dunwich once everyone has completed the ride and grabbed a well-earned breakfast from the café on the beach, pub or local tea-rooms. The likely departure time is between 07.00 and 10.00. The coach then returns us to Swindon, with another stop for refreshments at a suitable motorway service station. The same coach will transport us and our bikes. Bikes will go in the hold underneath the coach. So that bikes are suitably protected, they will be loaded by us with the front wheel and both pedals removed. Each bike will have a 2m x 1.5m packing blanket to protect it that I am providing. Bungee cords will also be used to prevent bikes from moving about. It’s the same plan that served us well in 2019. Having learned from that trip that there is a bit more room for bikes than I’d estimated, there is an opportunity to bring the cost per person down by increasing the numbers. The minimum is 15, at a cost of £95 each. If there are more, the price will come down. If you wish to book, please email me at CyclingEvent@outlook.com and I’ll send you a booking form and details of how to pay your deposit. Any questions, please drop me an email or reply below. Cheers, Mark

One trip is to the Cyclo-Cross World Championships in February 2023. It may seem too far away, yet only 15 places remain. Read on for details. Partners, friends (even friends in other clubs!) are welcome. If you want to experience cyclo-cross at its very best, a World Championships in Belgium or the Netherlands is the way to do it. It’s an epic experience. Hoogerheide is the regular location of the GP Adrie van der Poel (Mathieu’s dad). I can’t imagine Mathieu not being there if he's fit and well. The Hoogerheide Worlds will include six races (three on Saturday, three on Sunday). There may be a seventh race if the team relay race, held as a test event at the 2022 Worlds in Fayetteville, USA, is repeated. Our private coach will depart from Swindon on Friday 3rd February around 06.00 and will travel via the Channel Tunnel (to save time and avoid any delays due to bad weather). Three nights on a bed and breakfast basis at the Fletcher Wellness-Hotel Stadspark in Bergen op Zoom, Netherlands, in mainly twin-bedded rooms. Some double and single rooms are available. The hotel is approximately five miles from the race venue, so a very convenient short coach trip there and back, and maybe even the odd team staying there. Hotel: https://www.fletcherstadsparkhotel.nl/en/ Event website, including tickets: not yet launched (or I’ve not found it) Itinerary / included: • Friday 3rd February 2023: coach departs from Swindon around 06.00 (time will be confirmed nearer the time). Travels along M4, M25, M26, M20 with agreed pick-ups along the way. Take the train from Folkestone through the Channel Tunnel. Continue our journey on the coach to Bergen op Zoom. Spend three nights on a bed and breakfast basis at the Fletcher Wellness-Hotel Stadspark. • Saturday 4th and Sunday 5th February: coach travel from the hotel to the race and back. Race entry tickets are purchased separately. • Monday 6th February: drive to Calais for the return train crossing from Calais to Folkestone. A hypermarket stop should be possible but will depend on our progress. Continue the return journey back to Swindon, with agreed drop off points. Expecting to arrive in Swindon early evening. Note: if the team relay race is confirmed, it seems likely that it will take place on Friday afternoon. If possible, the itinerary on Friday 3rd February will be adjusted to enable us to go to the race before going to the hotel. This will likely involve an earlier start. The price per person for this three-night itinerary will depend on the final number of passengers going on the trip, as follows: Minimum 25 persons £360 Minimum 30 persons £330 Minimum 35 persons £315 Minimum 40 persons £295 Minimum 45 persons £285 - we're already at this price point Minimum 50 persons £275 Single room supplement is £99 If you wish to book a place, I must ask that you do so on the understanding the final price could be up to £360 per person. I fully expect it to be much less. Previous trips have been full, or close to full, bringing the price down significantly. There are already 45 places booked and I’m expecting to fill the coach. I will advise the total price by the end of October 2022 when the balance for the trip falls due. If the price falls after final balances have been paid, as has been the case in the past, you will receive a refund of the difference. Children are very welcome to come along and enjoy the trip. Any persons under 18 must be with a parent or responsible adult. If you wish to book, please email me at CyclingEvent@outlook.com and I’ll send you a booking form and details of how to pay your deposit. Any questions, please drop me an email or reply below. Cheers, Mark

The course looks great, so things are set for an exciting weekend of racing, kicking off with the Team Relay test event on Friday. The racing is available to watch in the usual places (Eurosport and GCN Race Pass), plus the BBC red button has the Saturday and Sunday races live and free (three races each day - basically everything except the team relay). Or, watch via the UCI Channel on YouTube, but use a VPN into somewhere like India to avoid the geo-blocking. Fayetteville, Arkansas, is six hours behind GMT, so the racing starts at 4.30 pm on Friday and 5pm on Saturday and Sunday, handily avoiding the club rides. BBC red button details here: https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m00145vd/broadcasts/upcoming Get your Belgian beer and frites ready!🍟🍻
