December Ride Leaders Draw

Thanks to all our volunteers who have led rides this month.

We have drawn the names out of our metaphorical hat for the December ride leaders draw. Our two winners this month are Rich Preston – who becomes the first MTB winner of the draw – and Chris Vevers, who led more rides in December (6) than anyone else.

Thanks to both Rich and Chris, and all the ride leaders. Remember, the more rides you lead, the greater your chances of winning!

Smith races to bowling victory over CTC

The photo below shows the moment of victory as star man Roger Smith bowls CCCC to victory in a close fought encounter with the Cheltenham Touring Club. With the CTC train firmly in control as the peloton approached the finish line, all seemed lost, until Smith’s final Sagan-like sprint for the line, securing an amazing 7 points in the final end. Some say that his average power output in the final end was close to 1000 watts but those reports are unconfirmed…

Reduction in 14s rides over the winter

Following discussions with regular riders and leaders, we will only be running our steadier 14s rides on alternate Saturdays over the winter, when we are scheduled for a hillier ride. On flatter weeks, we will encourage people to join the 16’s ride.

We’ll revert to weekly rides in the Spring when demand for a weekly 14’s ride is likely to be higher. Please feel free to contact our Road Captain if you have any thoughts on this.

Results from the Clubs AGM held 13.11.19

On behalf of the clubs elected Officers, we wish to welcome the following new members to the Committee, and welcome their support and assistance for the new 2019 / 20 term:

  • Tony Payne – Road Captain
  • Simon Boswell – Route Meister (assist the road captain)
  • Steve Smith – Without Portfolio
  • Simon Boswell – Webmaster

This AGM was also very important for the club, as the remaining 7 Resolutions were Passed by the attending members to now complete the process of changing the legal status of the club from a ‘Non Incorporated Entity’ to an ‘Incorporated Entity’, and will be called Cheltenham & County Cycling Club Limited (Limited by Guarantee).  This transition will now commence and the current club will be dissolved by the 31st January 2020. However, the club members have allowed the new company to use its name for general day to day activities.

This is a major milestone in this clubs history and I would like to thank everyone involved in making this process happen and for the club members trusting us to ‘Get the job done’!

Flooding and new ride routes for Saturday

Due to continued flooding at Haw Bridge we have taken the decision to change Saturday’s routes. Our routes will instead take us to Hailes: via Ashton (40 miles) or via Wormington (30 miles). Route details can be found below, or in the links on the right hand side.

We are not expecting any more heavy rain, so we currently think that all roads will be passable on Saturday. However, please bear in mind that we will be riding in winter conditions so the road surface may be wet / dirty at times. Mudguards – and lights – are strongly advised.
