After trialling an alternative to the WTRs at the weekend it looks like running it as a social ride will be the best option going forward.
We started with 7 riders but reduced to 5.
2 guys opted to split off to do an extended route as it was such a nice day.
For me as a 17/18s rider it was a nice relaxed ride, mostly zone 1 and 2.
Plus it was steady enough that a 16s rider managed to get around fine, he even commented that the smoothness helped him ride further than usual.
The distance I clocked was 85km/53 miles at an average of 15.8mph and included a cafe stop. I think due to the pace this could make a good template. I can plan to suit the predicted weather conditions so 40-60 miles with a pace that caters to who is out on the day.
For now I’ll probably just plan flat routes and depending on feedback I can tweak for regular attendees preferences.
The best idea suggested to me was to use different routes to the WTR to avoid any confusion.
Definitely better to make this its own thing.
I’ll try to find out who I need to speak to in order to add it to the calendar, I’m happy to organise and run these until the sportive rides start up again in spring. I’ve been a member of the club for a few years now and have enjoyed all the rides and events that others have planned. So as it seems there is a small gap in the calendar it’ll be nice to give something back to the club.
A great contribution from members could be knowledge of cafes that are open Sundays that I can incorporate into routes.
