Potholes affect cyclists and drivists, although the risk to cyclists is higher.
As cyclists, we're in the unique position of being able to assess the severity and more accurately record the position of a road defect.
There is a website run by Cycling UK where potholes can be recorded and a notification is automatically sent to the responsible authority - https://www.fillthathole.org.uk/
The authority then has a legal duty to investigate the defect.
What if each of us sends one report of a road defect after every ride?
Between us we cover a lot of the local roads and we can start to deliver a truer picture of how bad they are, and help keep everyone safer. Why not start with submitting your favourite local pothole?
Probably wishful thinking, but maybe, just maybe they might get fixed as well...
Thanks for the reminder. After many forgotten intentions I have just logged the array of potholes on the left turn from Gretton Road onto Cleeve Road. I used the app, which is no longer in the iOS App Store, but still works if you have it.
