I share a note below from the council about the Cycleway plans and the opportunity to give feedback. This includes public share events focused on Section 1: Honeybourne Line to Cheltenham Racecourse Roundabout on Tuesday 16th May 2023 from 12noon to 4pm and Wednesday 17th May 2023 from 4pm to 8pm at Cheltenham Tigers Rugby Club, located at Southam Lane, Southam GL52 3PE.
Please find below a link to a webpage with plans showing cycle and pedestrian route improvements for Section 1 of the A435 Cheltenham to Bishops Cleeve cycleway – Between the Honeybourne Line and Cheltenham Racecourse Roundabout.
The A435 Cheltenham to Bishop’s Cleeve Cycleway forms part of the Gloucestershire Cycle spine, extending across the county from Stroud in the south to Bishop's Cleeve in the north. The improvements support the County Councils ambitions for a greener Gloucestershire, aligns with Gloucestershire County Councils aims of becoming carbon net zero by 2045, supports improvements to public health and makes it easier for people to cycle and walk to work, homes and transport hubs. The scheme will contribute to a significant cycling and walking network across the Gloucestershire County, improving quality and connectivity.
The A435 Cheltenham to Bishops Cleeve Cycleway section of the route runs between the Honeybourne Line by the Prince of Wales Stadium in Cheltenham and the GE roundabout at the southern edge of Bishops Cleeve. From the Honeybourne Line the route travels over Folly Lane, along Hudson Street, Marle Hill Road, Wellesley Road, West Drive, Central Cross Drive and along the A435 Evesham Road to the GE Roundabout at Bishops Cleeve. It covers approximately 4km (2.5 miles) in length.
The scheme will improve facilities for cyclists, pedestrians and non-motorised users in the area and make a further contribution to CO2 reductions. It will provide access directly to public transport hubs such as Cheltenham train station, sites including Cheltenham Racecourse, GE Aviation, the leisure centre, the Prince of Wales Stadium, Pittville Park and the multiple University of Gloucestershire campuses within the area.
The scheme will include:
Installation of new and improved segregated cycleway and footway along the A435 Evesham Road.
Cyclist and pedestrian improvements at and adjacent to junctions and roundabouts, including new and improved crossing points.
Improved on-road routes for cyclists through residential roads.
Embankment stabilisation works around the GWSR railway bridge.
The project is set to be delivered in two sections:
Section 1: Between the Honeybourne Line and Cheltenham Racecourse Roundabout (starting winter 2023/2024)
Section 2: Between the Cheltenham Racecourse Roundabout and the GE Roundabout, Bishops Cleeve (starting later in 2024, date TBC)
Please do look at the plans for Section 1: Honeybourne Line to Cheltenham Racecourse Roundabout via the link below and if you wish to make any comments, please respond by no later than 20th June 2023.
