We are now moving into the final few weeks of the club time trial calendar.
Next week, Thursday 31st July, is a Hilly 19 mile event. This is a lumpy ride from Andoversford to Bouton-on-the-Water, finishing with a fast run-in back to the start. A TT bike is definitely still king on this course. However, it is also the last chance to qualify for the Grimpuer Trophy for the best climber before the two hill climbs.
After this we have two more 10 mile TT’s. Please note the Foxes Saddlery has now changed hands and is due to become a Trucker rest stop / cafe. We have an agreement with the new owner to carry on using the car park, though please take extra care to leave it tidy and as you found it. Please continue to use the toilets at the Teddington Hands pub.
On 21st we are back at Wormington for an 8 mile event. Note the change of HQ – its near the industrial estate near the Black Barns Crossroads.
Finally, we end the season with 2 hill climbs. First up is Salter’s Hill near Hailes Fruit Farm. This is a short climb between the two cattle grids. The gradient is fairly steady, so pick a gear and commit! On 4th September we end with the traditional ascent of Aggs Hill. This is a tricky one to pace, with a super-steep wall followed by a long drag to the line. Dave Roper set the course record in 2013 though it looks beatable – let’s see! Please stay behind for a drink or two at the Hewlett Arms to celebrate the end of the season.
Unfortunately one of our entrants crashed last night after riding on to the verge. Please remember to concentrate when down on the tri-bars and keep looking ahead! We are also annoyed to hear that one, perhaps two, of the other entrants raced straight past the injured rider while they were still lying alone on the ground. They did not check to see if they were ok. This is simply unacceptable. These are club events, not the Inter Galactic World Championships. Please take care of each other.
