We were lucky to have a warm sunny day for the first round of the summer league. Pittville was in good shape, firm on the grass tracks and so good going. It must have been one of those days where it all clicked for local rider Ben Davies . He got a decent gap on the first lap and then just pushed on lapping a few seconds faster than the chasing group and finished with a good minute margin – a popular result. The chasing bunch eventually split apart in the last third of the race and Peter Kench took second and David Barnaugh third.
Veterans were led in by Donald Macgregor eight overall with Martyn Green not far behind. Jayne Cheslin was first lady followed by Alison Rowlands. Oliver Hayward won the junior prize. The youth section was won by Will Swarbrick from James Norris.
David Meyer cruised one lap of the U12 circuit with Thomas Bennet then took off to win with a decent margin.
Bike watchers were entertained by Harry Walton who completed the event in a very respectable manner having got off the train from London on his Brompton and borrowed a helmet to enter. And it is always interesting To see what Ian Alexander turns up on, as you may see it in the shops in two years time! One couldn’t help noticing the single chain-ring big range sprockets goupset on this prototype. Seemed to go pretty well.
Finally, a massive thanks to John Hawes for all his efforts to organise the event. He was ably assisted by Steve Smith who did loads, Laura F of course, Don Muir, Mike Swinford, Paul…invaluable with computer back-up, Joe hole, Will Baxter, Martin McG, Jenny Alexander, Pat Alexander and many others who helped clear up at the end.
There is a huge photo album on our facebook page – check it out if you haven’t already.
