We are excited to announce a compelling selection of cycling films and activities over two days: Bikes Camera Action, at the Bacon Theatre on Friday 30th to Saturday 31st May.

This mini festival, based in and around the Bacon Theatre building, will cross all boundaries of biking from BMX, to fixed gear, to speed racing, to A2B travel and will be suitable for cyclists and spectators aged 12 to 112.

Highlights will include screenings of The Flying Scotsman [15], a moving tale of human determination and cycling fanaticism; Premium Rush [12A], an exhilarating action film about a New York bicycle messenger who picks up more than he bargained for when a routine delivery turns into a life or death chase through the streets of Manhattan; To Live & Ride in LA, a fast-paced trip through the busy streets and back-alleys of one of the world’s largest cities, from the documentary director David Rowe (Fast Friday); Bicycle Dreams, the multi-award-winning documentary by Stephen Auerbach which follows the gruelling endurance test that is The Race Across America; and Wadjda [PG], the tale of a fun-loving and enterprising young Saudi girl who decides to save up for a bicycle.

Over the course of this mini festival of bicycle goodness there will also be demonstrations from professional Flatland BMXers Jason Forde and Johann Chan and a Bike Polo tournament will be led by the Bristol Bike Polo team. In addition, a collective bike ride has been arranged for the opening evening; Cyclecraft training will be provided by cycling safety experts; the Gloucestershire Bike Project will visit with the Smoothie Bike; and free bicycle maintenance will be provided by Leisure Lakes Bikes.

Speaking for the Bacon Theatre, Jess Waterman said: “Cycling and cinema are both extremely popular in Cheltenham, so we wanted Bikes Camera Action to celebrate as broad a range of bike-related activities and films as possible.

From avid sports cyclists, to commuter-cyclists, to those who simply enjoy riding for leisure; we hope we have included a good variety to appeal to cyclists of varying interests, ages and abilities.

There are some incredible documentaries and feature films out there and this mini bike film festival will also give us a rare opportunity to see some of the best on the big screen.”
