This event was the first time Cheltenham and County CC have used Denfurlong Farm near Chedworth as a Cyclocross venue although many riders in the region may have used the farm cafe as it is a very popular ride stop. The course was in an old disused quarry so drains well and features thin soil over Cotswold stone. This was reflected in the course which had technical woods sections and hard grass which nevertheless was slippy on corners.
65 riders set off and within a lap a breakaway group of 5 formed. Richard Lewis and Scott Chalmers were at the front of it with Peter Kench and two juniors, Matt Fratesi and David Crober making up the numbers. Over the next few laps Richard Lewis and Peter Kench were tailed off, then David Crober. Three laps from the end Matt Fratesi upped the pressure and got the winning gap. Matt’s winning margin over Scott was 30 seconds in the end with David another 20 seconds and Peter Kench 10 seconds after that. First veteran was Simon Snowdon and first lady was Jo Tindley 28th overall.
The youth race had a strong field but was dominated by Tom Sewell from the off and he was not only a clear winner from Matthew Cox who rode a very good race, but he then came 27th in the main race straight afterwards
