Those of you who may be planning to end Race week with a few carbs to burn will be delighted to know that C&CCC’s Steve Poulton is still accepting entries for the “Cheltenham Flyer” on Saturday 18th March.
This event is a well established Audax which, for those unfamiliar with the format, means that riders are expected to follow a routecard or a GPX file (if preferred) to ride between various controls within a generous max/min time limit. There is no broomwagon and the emphasis is very much on self-sufficiency…but usually there are plenty of experienced riders who will be on a route to help if needed. Speaking of routes, there are 3 to choose from: 100, 150, and 200km. They all start at Andoversford Village Hall before heading south, tracing the River Coln to Fernham for refreshments. The 150km traverses the Marlborough Downs to Tetbury before returning up the Slad Valley. The 100km retraces the Coln or via a higher level route through Chedworth. Entry is easy from the AUK website (see below), with entry costs offering the kind of VFM that seems to be increasingly rare in cycling events. If there are any queries then Steve can be contacted via a link on the appropriate webpage, or ping Robin an email. Please note that comedy beards are optional.
